Contemporary Art is generally considered anything within the last 60 years (since World War II). Modern Art is anything within the last 400 years.

Some people think that Modern art is more of an art movement and connect it with artists like Mondrian, while contemporary art is just what’s out recently.

Modern art is generally anything 19th Century onwards. Contemporary art is the art of the present day and time, about things now.

these terms are used interchangably . They mean pretty much the same thing , although I’m sure some professor of fine art at Cambridge would be able to point out the fundamental dichotomy between these two terms . Or not.
Modern / contemporary art can cover anything from Banksy to Beryl Cook or Tracey Emin .
